A research-led textile project investigating how ageing, deterioration, and traces of use can become a contemporary visual language rather than evidence of obsolescence.
What happens when wear ceases to be damage and becomes an active design resource? This project explores the tactile narrative of worn surfaces, centering on core themes of material memory, surface deterioration, texture, and the dialogue between hand-craft and digital processes.
High-resolution scans and macro photography of aged textiles were used to isolate physical marks, cracks, stains, and loose fibres. These isolated artifacts were digitally fragmented, manipulated, and tested across varying densities and scales to formulate cohesive pattern systems.
Grounded in a mineral palette of faded ivory, tobacco brown, mineral grey, washed blue, and oxidised green, the final outcomes encompass 6–8 repeat patterns, 3 engineered prints, physical surface experiments, and garment mock-ups.
