Archive / Recode

A heritage-focused project reinterpreting historical textile language through contemporary digital processes without relying on nostalgia or literal reproduction

CONTEXT & INQUIRY

Deconstructing Textile Heritage

How can archival motifs be re-engineered for the modern silhouette without becoming pastiche? This project focuses on historical visual analysis, selective reduction, and structural deconstruction to bring heritage into the digital present.

METHODOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT

Digitisation, Rhythm & Reconstruction

Selected historical artifacts were analyzed for internal geometry, weave rhythm, and composition. Key motifs were digitized, isolated, fragmented, and reconstructed into forward-facing repeat structures and modern engineered placements.

PALETTE & OUTCOMES

Engineered Prints & Before / After Analysis

Rendered in archival neutrals, indigo, rust, and aged gold alongside modern accents. Deliverables include an archive analysis board, motif decomposition matrices, a contemporary repeat collection, engineered garments, and comparative case studies.
